Introduction

Sahir Ludhianvi born in Ludhiana, Punjab on 8 March 1921 and left us 25 October 1980 with his great lyrics.His birth name was Abdul Hayee

The year 1949 witnessed his debut in Hindi films through his lyrics for the film Aazadi Ki Raah Par wherein he had penned four songs of which the first one was titled 'Badal Rahi Hai Zindagi'. He moved forward gaining recognition through Naujawaan (1951) which is still popular for the song 'Thandi Hawayen Lehre Ke Aaye'sahir-ludhianvi.

S D Burman, Roshan and Khayyam were some of the popular music composers with whom he had worked with whereby he was seen to have collaborated with composer N Dutta in several films in the later years. It is worth mentioning that Ramesh Saigal’s film Phir Subah Hogi with music by Khayyam and the ‘Woh Subah Kabhi Toh Aayegi’ (sung by Mukesh) with minimal background music that remain all time hits were penned by none other than Sahir. This apart other films such as Kabhie Kabhie and Trishul also witnessed the combination of Khayyam with Sahir.
